Burnley in contract talks with striker Jay Rodriguez
Rodriguez made his England Under-21 bow as a substitute in Tuscany
Burnley boss Eddie Howe has revealed he is in talks with 21-year-old striker Jay Rodriguez about a new contract.
The Burnley-born youngster, who made his England Under-21 debut in Tuesday's 1-0 defeat by Italy, has less than six months to run on his current deal.
Howe told BBC Radio Lancashire: "Jay was obviously a priority, he's out at the end of the season - we want to try and sort that as quickly as we can.
"You want to keep your best players and Jay's certainly one of those."
The Clarets youth system product has scored seven goals in 26 Championship appearances this term and hit the winner against Norwich in last Saturday's 2-1 win at Turf Moor.
He is one of several Burnley players whose contracts expire in the summer and Howe said he will monitor each situation closely: "We've had a good look at the squad and the contract length of everybody - Jay was obviously a priority.
"As for the other players, we'll monitor them all on an individual basis and have a look at all their contracts."
