Bristol Rovers director of football Lennie Lawrence has said he is close to signing on-loan Colchester defender Pat Baldwin on a permanent deal.
The 27-year-old joined Rovers in November and has been a regular feature in Paul Trollope's side.
Lawrence told the club's website: "They want to do it permanently, so do we, but there is a bit of a difference in the valuation.
"But we hope to conclude that and we are also looking to bring one in."
Rovers are also hopeful midfielder Chris Lines will agree a new improved deal.
"It's moving along nicely - big decisions for everyone - and I am confident it will have a satisfactory conclusion," added Lawrence.
Meanwhile a quartet of Rovers players are extending their stays at other clubs.
Striker Lewis Haldane is about to pen a permanent deal at Port Vale having been on-loan with the club since September.
Fellow forward Sean Rigg will be keeping him company as he has extended his loan deal with Micky Adams' side until the end of the season.
Keeper Steve Phillips has committed himself to Crewe for the rest of the 2009/10 campaign while midfielder David Pipe has signed on for another month at League Two side Cheltenham Town.
