Bristol Rovers swoop for Baldwin

Pat Baldwin
Baldwin will stay with Rovers until at least 2 January

Bristol Rovers have signed defender Pat Baldwin on loan from League One rivals Colchester until January.

Baldwin, 27, has made 222 appearances for the Essex side since joining them from Chelsea in 2002.

Rovers boss Paul Trollope wanted to strengthen his defensive options after seeing his team concede 26 goals in 16 league games this season.

Baldwin will go straight into the Rovers squad to face Gillingham at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday.

With Carl Regan serving a one-match suspension and Aaron Lescott still injured he is likely to make his debut against the Gills.

The versatile defender has been on the sidelines for the U's in recent weeks, with his last appearance coming in a 0-0 draw against Southampton on 5 September.
