Lansdown believes the Robins need a further 26 points to secure survival

Bristol City chairman Steve Lansdown has said the only target for the side this season is to avoid relegation from the Championship.

The Robins currently lie five points clear of the drop in 19th place after a recent run of six wins in 10 games.

"We've got to get at least 52 points to get our safety and that's got to be our first aim," he told BBC Radio Bristol.

"Quite honestly, at this stage, that's got to be our only aim. Anything more than that is a real bonus."

Robins manager Keith Millen suffered a torrid start to his stint at Ashton Gate after taking over from Steve Coppell in August, with just one win in his first 10 games in charge.

But after being backed by Lansdown in October, the side have since turned around their form with just two defeats in their last 10 and City's chairman knows they must build on their recent results.

"The main thing is to be in the Championship. We've had a good period but we haven't done anything yet. We've got a long way to go."

Steve Lansdown was speaking to BBC Radio Bristol for their sports review of the year which will be to be broadcast on 26 December at 1300 GMT.
