Goalkeeper David James staying put at Bristol City

Bristol City keeper David James says he has is happy to remain at the club, despite the resignation of manager Steve Coppell last week.

The 40-year-old cited Coppell as a key factor in his signing but has been impressed with new boss Keith Millen.

"Keith's organisation seems good and I'm hoping that's going to bring the rewards that I came to the club for," James told BBC Radio Bristol.

"And that essentially is the play-offs and promotion."

City lost their first two games of the season, at home to Millwall in the league and away to Southend in the Carling Cup, but picked up a creditable draw away to Doncaster on Saturday.

It's a welcoming sight to see the supporters are behind us and have faith

"Ironically the defeat on Tuesday [against Southend] has done us some good because otherwise we would have had another cup game in a couple of weeks," said England international James.

"It gives us some time to do some good work on the training ground."

The Robins' next fixture is at home to Barnsley on Saturday and James has urged fans to turn out in their numbers at Ashton Gate.

"A full house on Saturday would be a tremendous tonic for the lads," he said.

And he paid tribute to those who made the long trip to Doncaster.

"The team went over and applauded them and it's a welcoming sight to see the supporters are behind us and have faith."
