Bristol City's Nicky Maynard faces three months out
Maynard was joint top scorer in the Championship last season
Bristol City striker Nicky Maynard will be out for three to four months after undergoing knee surgery.
Maynard, 22, was City's top-scorer last season with 21 goals and was operated on on Wednesday having not kicked a ball at all in pre-season.
"It could have been worse news, it could have been longer," City's new boss Keith Millen told BBC Bristol.
"Having looked in the knee the surgeon said it was the right decision and he's confident it will be successful."
The news comes as a further blow to Bristol City's forward line, which is already without Danny Haynes and on-loan Wolves striker Sam Vokes, who will be out for six to eight weeks.
