COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE, Taunton: Somerset 412 drew with Hampshire 284 & 224-4 Somerset 11pts, Hampshire 8pts Match scorecard
Neil McKenzie faced 131 balls for his unbeaten 60, hitting nine fours |
Hampshire batted out the final day at Taunton to earn a draw and deny Somerset the chance to go top of County Championship Division One. After giving up a first-innings lead of 128, Hampshire reached 224-4, with Neil McKenzie unbeaten on 60. Earlier, James Tomlinson completed figures of 7-85 as Somerset moved from 392-7 to 412 all out. Somerset pick up 11 points and climb above Yorkshire into second place, while Hampshire move up to fifth. Marcus Trescothick's side sit two points behind leaders Nottinghamshire, who have a game in hand. Earning a draw was perhaps the least of Hampshire's worries, with the injuries sustained at Taunton disrupting their plans for Saturday's FP t20 finals day at The Rose Bowl. | 606: DEBATE |
Michael Lumb is definitely out with a broken foot, while captain Dominic Cork and all-rounder Sean Ervine both have back problems. Indeed, when Dan Christian was cut by a Zander de Bruyn bouncer in the afternoon session, Cork waved a white flag of mock-surrender from the dressing-room balcony. After securing their fifth batting point, Somerset had 87 overs to force victory but were frustrated by McKenzie, James Vince (43 not out) and Christian (36).
