Bristol City manager Gary Johnson said he was "very proud" after Bristol was named as a host city for England's 2018 World Cup bid.
City's proposed new 30,000 seater stadium at Ashton Vale has been a key factor in Bristol's inclusion.
"A manager's life is not normally as long as 2018 but I'm here now and been part of this now and very proud to be," Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol.
"It's a magnificent achievement and credit to everyone involved."
Johnson continued: "I've witnessed World Cups first hand having been involved in Japan and France.
"I know what a festival of football it is and how it lights up the whole area.
"And whatever teams you get here, it doesn't matter. Everybody starts following and you make friends for the rest of your life."
