Maynard scored 11 times in his first season at Ashton Gate.
Bristol City manager Gary Johnson says he never doubted Nicky Maynard would adapt to life in the Championship.
The 22-year-old striker's four league goals in five games have helped City to fifth in the table.
"He's learning and wanting to make sure his game is good enough for this level," Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol.
"He knows he's got all the attributes, he's just got to put them all together, which he is at the moment, so the world is his oyster."
Maynard scored 11 goals in his first season in the Championship, having moved from League One Crewe for a club record £2.25 million.
Johnson looking forward to Ricoh return
Johnson believes managers need to be patient with young strikers making the step up.
"You name me a player who has done well in the Championship that did well the previous year in League One. They don't tend to set the Championship alight in their first season.
"That's why you have to strive for it and do it gradually. We were confident Nicky had the tools, and you have to go with your judgement."
