Jo-Kuffour's last-minute winner sank Oldham as Bristol Rovers climbed to third place in League One.
Substitute Andy Williams teed up Kuffour and he beat Latics keeper Dean Brill with a cool finish from 10 yards.
Defences had dominated up until then, with Rovers creating most of the few chances there were and Mark Wright slicing the best of them wide.
Oldham's best opening fell to Nick Blackman but he shot straight at Mikkel Andersen from 10 yards.

"I can understand the frustration if we're not two up in the first half. We've created the expectation of flowing football as well.
"Sometimes the opposition stop you doing that they did it very well.The way they pressed the ball, their organisation and the work ethic was exceptional.
"It was a hot day. I always felt we would need 14 players, not just 11. I decided put them [the substitutes] on early today and it worked."
