Lansdown welcomes rival cup bid

Stephen Lansdown
Bristol is one of up to 16 cities looking to host games in the 2018 World Cup

Bristol City chairman Stephen Lansdown says he is not concerned by Plymouth entering the bidding as a World Cup host city in 2018.

City's plans to build a new 42,000-seat stadium are central to Bristol's proposal, which was submitted in May.

"I welcome the competition and think it will focus Bristol City Council's mind on the job," he told BBC Radio Bristol.

The rival bid is set to include a proposal for a new 40,000-plus seat stadium for Plymouth Argyle.

"There's competition still coming in and [Bristol City Council] will have to put the resources in to make it happen and I believe they will," added Lansdown.

"We've got the next visit from the FA on 10 September and I'll be looking forward to seeing what the feedback is on that."
