Gerken set to return for Robins

Bristol City hope to have goalkeeper Dean Gerken back in the frame for the rest of their pre-season programme.

The Robins drafted in former Swindon stopper Peter Brezovan as cover with their three keepers nursing injuries.

And he played in the 1-1 draw against Cheltenham after coming on for Gerken in the 4-0 defeat at home to Ajax.

But Gerken should play against Weymouth on Tuesday because Adriano Basso has a thigh problem and Stephen Henderson is out for six weeks with a broken toe.

David Clarkson scored in the draw at Cheltenham to cancel out David Bird's opener after the visitors made wholesale changes at half-time.

And manager Gary Johnson, who gave game time to Jamie McCombe, Gavin Williams and Brian Wilson, was pleased to see his defence pushed by the League Two outfit.

"I don't want to see a really open game," Johnson told the club's website.

"But sometimes in pre-season it's good to see defenders put under pressure in order to see how well they cope and I was pleased for David for the goal."
