Elliott was out with a knee injury at the start of the season
Bristol City midfielder Marvin Elliott is expected to be out of action for six weeks with a groin tear.
The absence of such a key man could hit the club's play-off hopes and manager Gary Johnson has not ruled out bringing in midfield cover for the 24-year-old.
"It depends on what's available. I'll chat with our scouts and see what's about," he told BBC Radio Bristol.
"But you mustn't forget the ones who have been part of your mentality and a part of your squad right up to now."
He added: "Sometimes they need to be given an opportunity. Cole Skuse has taken his opportunity well, the squad's important and sometimes you mustn't forget the people you're already paying.
"When they get their opportunity they've got to come in and do their job."
Elliott sustained the injury in the first half of the 2-0 win at Plymouth.
"My right leg took the ball, but my left knee got stuck in the mud and I ended up doing the splits," he told the club's website.
"I've never had a groin injury before, but I felt the pain immediately."
"I thought I could run off the injury, but it wasn't to be and I'll be trying to get back as soon as possible."
The victory at Home Park lifted last season's beaten play-off finalists to 12th in the Championship and extended their unbeaten run in the league to four games.
