Johnson vows to strengthen City

Gary Johnson
Johnson's Bristol City have gone six games without a win

Bristol City boss Gary Johnson says he needs to bring in new players after seeing his side slump against Ipswich on Wednesday.

Johnson reacted to City's 3-1 away defeat by saying he would look to strengthen his squad in January to stop the club's slide.

"We need a couple of wins between now and January and then we need to improve the squad," he told the club website.

"I've been talking to the chairman and he agrees."

City are 15th in the Championship, 23 points behind leaders Wolves.

"We're coming up to January and I'm having to keep an eye out for players I think can take the club further - and those that can't."

The Robins were leading against Ipswich but lost the game in a crazy seven-minute spell.

I think it's fair to say we need to improve the squad

Johnson added: "It was a terrible seven minutes, poor play and poor defending.

"It was a disappointing night for everyone, but I'm not just here for Christmas, I'm here to ensure we build a squad capable of competing at this level first.

"I think it's fair to say we need to improve the squad.

"If you win 10 on the trot you don't tend to make changes, but if you win one in 10 then unfortunately it means some players will have to move on and some will have to come in."
