Johnson's City play their first tour match on Wednesday
Bristol City manager Gary Johnson says a six-day training camp in Portugal will give his side the best preparation for the new season.
City flew to the Algarve on Tuesday and play matches against Sporting Clube Olhanense and Rushden and Diamonds.
"Portugal is ideal because the training centre there has all the facilities we need," Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol.
"To get the boys eating a high quality diet and knowing they're doing exactly what we want is good for us."
Midfielder Marvin Elliot is expected to play in one of the matches, after missing the draw with Forest Green Rovers on Saturday because of an ankle injury.
Goalkeepers Adriano Basso and Stephen Henderson, winger Scott Murray and new signing Gavin Williams also missed that game but made the trip to Portugal.
