Johnson nearly achieved two promotions in two years
Bristol City chairman Steve Lansdown has reassured fans they will not lose manager Gary Johnson after they failed to win promotion to the Premier League.
City lost 1-0 to Hull in Saturday's Championship play-off final.
"Gary and I have a good understanding and he's under contract for the next couple of years," he told BBC Bristol.
Lansdown also announced that goalkeeper Adriano Basso, who was thought to be out of contract this summer, had already agreed to stay at Ashton Gate.
"We've got nobody out of contract in the summer that we didn't expect to be out of contract," he told BBC Radio Bristol.
"The players will be talked to and some will be released, that's obviously a sad day and then we move on."
"The players that people have talked about like Adriano Basso, we organised his contract in February so he's here for another two years.
The Robins chairman said he was confident that Gary Johnson could take the club to the next level through evolution rather than revolution.
"His belief is we're going to take this club into the Premier League so it's a question of he and I sitting down and making sure we've got our plans right for the next Championship campaign.
"We're not going to do anything different to what we've done already, which has got us this far and I think it will take us further, and that is to keep building the football club.
Lansdown also confirmed that plans to build a new stadium to replace Ashton Gate were still in the offing despite Saturday's play-off final defeat.
"It's not going to be there next year but it is all going to plan and it will progress.
"It should be finished at the end of January 2012 ready for the 2012-13 season."
