We must get over this - Johnson

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson vowed the club would bounce back from their play-off final loss to Hull at Wembley.

"I didn't want to be making the losing speech today but unfortunately I am," said Johnson after the 1-0 defeat.

"We got beaten and all I can say is well done to Hull. They are up in the Premier League.

"We have to work a bit harder to get there. We'll be playing in the Championship again but we'll come back and try to compete again."

Johnson conceded they were below their best, but felt the difference between the two sides was the finishing of Hull striker Dean Windass.

"We had a few half chances and we weren't at our best, but that's not something to talk about at this time," he added.

"The game could have gone either way but for a bit of experienced play from Dean Windass.

"I thought the game was pretty even. We had as many chances but didn't take them and Dean Windass is a clever player like that. We threw our kitchen sink at them at the end but it didn't come off.

"We have to fine tune and improve and compete in the Championship next year.

"We wanted to do it for our fans and our chairman and I wanted to do it for the players. You can see how distraught they are and they will take a lot of consoling."

Robins chairman Steve Lansdown told BBC Points West that he felt 'desperate' following the Wembley defeat:

Lansdown regrets missed opportunity

"There's no magic words that I can say to take away any of the pain.

"We had a great chance to get to the Premier League and we haven't taken it, and that's a hard fact to accept.

"It's been a great day out for Bristol City football club - it doesn't feel like it at the moment but the future's there and I think we've shown over the last few weeks what this football club can achieve."
