Bristol City captain Louis Carey ranks Saturday's Championship play-off final defeat against Hull among the worst moments of his career.
Carey has tasted play-off defeat with the Robins three times before, but felt this one was the hardest to swallow.
"It's probably the lowest point because of what was at stake at the end of it," the 30-year-old told BBC Points West.
"Even in the last ten minutes we had three or four half-decent chances but it didn't quite fall for us."
Carey felt that his team were still in the game until the end and he says he only started to consider the consquences of losing once referee Alan Wiley had blown for full time.
The only thing we can do is come back stronger next season
Louis Carey
"On numerous occasions this season we've scored late on and we still felt there was a chance of that, and then when the final whistle first went I went round and picked the lads up.
"Once we've settled down over the next couple of weeks and got together and had a chat and that's probably when it will sink in.
"But the only thing we can do is come back stronger next season."
