Painter has made just six appearances for Swansea this season
Brighton loan signing Marcos Painter says he is keen to help shore up the club's leaky defence.
The Seagulls have let in 43 goals in 24 League One games this season, with only Wycombe and Stockport conceding more, and are just above the relegation zone.
The defender, who has joined from Swansea, told BBC Sussex: "The team as a whole has conceded a lot of goals and hopefully I can come in and help.
"I'm surprised because in the past they've been a tough side to play."
He added: "They are just above the relegation zone. It's a bit of a different challenge that we have got ahead but still one I'm looking forward to."
Painter has joined Albion until the end of the season and is set to make his debut during Saturday's visit to Walsall.
And, having recovered from a cruciate knee ligament injury, he is looking forward to playing regular football and arrives at Brighton with good memories of the Withdean Stadium from his time with the Swans.
"The last time I was there we won the league and were represented with the League One trophy," he said.
"I've missed a lot of football with a cruciate injury so I'm keen to play as much as I can. Roberto Martinez recommended me but the manager has said there is no extra pressure on me."
