Adams pleads for Seagulls support

Adams says he will not quit, despite criticism from fans

Brighton manager Micky Adams has warned fans that growing criticism is starting to affect the team's performances.

The Seagulls are currently one place above the League One relegation zone.

Supporters voiced their disapproval of under-fire Adams at Tuesday's goalless draw against League Two side Luton in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.

"I think the criticism coming my way is starting to seep through and affect the players and that can't happen," Adams told Southern Counties Radio.

"We are not kidding ourselves it's a difficult time for us," he added.

Brighton travel to fellow League One strugglers Cheltenham on Saturday and Adams has asked supporters to give them all more time to improve results.

"I'm sick of losing games of football as it spoils my week but I'm not going to walk away so the supporters are better off channelling all the energy into supporting the players," he said.

"We all want the same thing and want the Albion do well to win games.

"If I felt the players were cheating believe me I would come down on them like a tonne of bricks - believe me they are giving their absolute maximum.

"Some of them need a cuddle and the only way they are going to get that is from the supporters."

Adams also insists that he is not tempted to quit the South Coast outfit.

"If I'm given the opportunity I'll build a side," he said.

"I know football can change at the flick of a finger but I'm starting to lose faith with the supporters.

"Last week there were idiots shouting for my head before the game and I don't think that is helping the team at all.

"I know who my friends are and I know who my enemies are and I'll keep going."
