Brentford are set to sign Notts County midfielder Myles Weston after he turned down a new three-year deal.
The 21-year-old has joined the Bees for pre-season training and his transfer should be confirmed on Wednesday.
As Weston is under 24 a transfer fee will be involved, and this is expected to be decided by a tribunal.
"I think he's a foolish boy. That's his choice, but he's made a mistake," Magpies chairman John Armstrong-Holmes told BBC Radio Nottingham.
"We offered him a three-year deal at a substantial amount of money and that's been on the table since last October."
Weston was signed from Charlton in the summer of 2007 after spending a loan-spell with the club earlier that year.
Armstrong-Holmes added: "The only reason he's been attractive (to other clubs) is due to the work Ian McParland did with him last season.
"The season before he hardly played any games and his fitness levels were low.
"Last season he played 40-odd games and was almost a regular in every team we put out on the pitch."
