Brentford striker Charlie MacDonald says he was delighted to hit the back of the net twice during his debut in Saturday's 4-0 win against Grimsby.

The 27-year-old told BBC London 94.9: "The third would have been even better but I can't be greedy. I was delighted.

"Overall the team are happy with getting three points on the board at home considering the last two results that the boys have had."

MacDonald joined the Bees from Southend United on a two-year contract in July.

"I think overall the whole performance [was impressive] and the midfield worked very hard and won every second ball," MacDonald added.

"Me and Nathan Elder both got on the score sheet, we've tried to feed off each other as much as we can.

"If you haven't got that competition for places then you might become a little bit complacent. You've got to be on it every single game and if you're not there are people waiting in the wings to take your shirt.

"The gaffers brought in all his own players, all his targets that he wanted over the summer so it's actually his team now."

This weekend Brentford face Barnet in the League Two London derby and MacDonald says both teams will be desperate for maximum points.

"There's no certainty in football, obviously it's going to be a tough game. Barnet aren't going to be push-overs.

"They're still searching for their first points. It's going to be a tough game, going away from home and if we can put in the same application as what we did Saturday then I'm sure we'll come away with something."
