Bournemouth are not a selling club - Eddie Mitchell

Bournemouth

Bournemouth chairman Eddie Mitchell has told concerned Cherries supporters the club has no plans to sell any players during the January transfer window.

Some fans were worried Bournemouth could lose top-scorer Mark Pugh, having already sold striker Josh McQuiod to Championship club Millwall.

But Mitchell told BBC Radio Solent: "Selling is not a recipe for success and we don't want to lose anybody.

"We're starting a new era and we've got to look at stabilising and improving."

Midfielder Mark Pugh, who has scored 10 goals this season, has also been linked with several clubs after his successful move from Hereford in the summer.

But the Cherries chairman is confident no more players will leave the club this season.

"We wouldn't stop anybody's progress, but whilst they're contracted to us, we have to look seriously at what we're doing at Bournemouth, and that doesn't mean letting players go easily from now on."

Bournemouth are currently third in League One, having beaten Brentford 3-1 on Monday to go within one point of the automatic promotion places.

Mitchell says he is pleased Bournemouth have gathered some momentum in the league but the challenge now is to consolidate the club and build towards a successful future.

"The health of club is fantastic to what it was. Now is a time to keep pushing and stabilise the club and build it from the bottom upwards.

"We are looking to stay in this division and in the future challenge to go up. We want to build a club not just a team that will last five minutes.

"That doesn't mean just a quick fix. I came to the club for a hard slog and to get this club into shape where it should have been years ago so I can pass it on when I've finished."

"This is not just about 11 players on pitch but about the feeling and desire surrounding the club and the togetherness of the Bournemouth supporters."
