Bournemouth's Eddie Howe relishes Southampton derby
Howe is the youngest manager in the Football League
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe says the prospect of a south coast derby against Southampton is one of the most pleasing rewards of promotion.
The Cherries clinched their place in League One next season on Saturday with a 2-0 win at Burton Albion.
Howe told BBC Radio Solent: "I think that was the one game if we did get promotion that really shone out. I know our fans were singing about it."
Southampton's bid to make the League One play-offs ended at the weekend.
Alan Pardew's side beat Carlisle 3-2 at St Mary's, but Huddersfield's 5-0 win at Stockport ended any hopes of making the top six.
It is half a century since Bournemouth last met Southampton in a league fixture in the old third division.
Howe added: "I think it's something everyone is looking forward to. It hasn't happened for such a long time. It will generate huge interest locally. It will be brilliant."
