Abdul Jaffer has resigned as chairman of League One strugglers Bournemouth, reports BBC Radio Solent. He has blamed criticism from some supporters for his decision to quit.
Jaffer is also part of a three-man consortium bidding to take over the club. An extraordinary general meeting on 3 March is due to consider the bid.
A club statement said chief executive Laurence Jones would "continue to manage the day-to-day affairs of the club, with the support of the board".
It continued: "The board would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to Abdul for the outstanding work, huge commitment and financial contribution that he has given to the club, and for taking the club to a position where there is very real hope for the future."
Jaffer replaced Peter Phillips as Cherries chairman in September 2006.
One of his first tasks was to appoint a new manager after Sean O'Driscoll joined Doncaster - and Kevin Bond was handed the role in mid-October.
Bournemouth have announced that there will be a fans' forum at Dean Court on Sunday, 25 February at 1100 GMT, where fans can question the consortium hoping to gain control of the club.
