Former Derby County boss Phil Brown is now believed to be leading the race for the vacant manager's position at Bournemouth, reports BBC Radio Solent. Ex-England striker Les Ferdinand has pulled out of contention, following an interview with the club.
Meanwhile former Portsmouth and Southampton assistant Kevin Bond - recently sacked by Newcastle - is also in the running for the Dean Court post.
Chairman Abdul Jaffer is confident about making a quick appointment.
He told BBC Radio Solent: "We will have three or four people on the shortlist, probably three experienced managers, and one who was a good solid player.
"I'm very certain that our aim is to have a new man in place by the early to middle part of next week."
The club received over 20 applications to replace former boss Sean O'Driscoll, who ended a 23-year association with the Cherries earlier this month to become the new manager of Doncaster.
But Ferdinand will not get the job, with Jaffer confirming: "The club and Les have had informal discussions and Les has decided at this time he does not wish to take this any further."
