Okocha signed a two-year deal with Bolton on Tuesday and said that he was delighted to have finally secured a move to the Premiership.
"My Nigerian colleagues gave me a good impression of the Premiership and I am glad to be here," said Okocha. "But I am not thinking about myself. I am thinking about what we can achieve as a team. "I am very impressed with the club and the manager. They are ambitious and he is a nice man." Negotiations over the deal had been protracted - and it was thought at one point that the player's reported wage demands of 3.3m a season would scupper Bolton's hopes of landing the player. But Bolton manager Sam Allardyce has finally persuaded Okocha to sign - and is delighted with his new signing. "Jay Jay has a great pedigree. He has flair, ability and huge experience," said Allardyce. "Our ambition is to bring the best quality players we can to show we are trying to progress in the right way. "Now we have signed Jay Jay hopefully one or two people will pay more attention to Bolton. "The infrastructure here is one of the best in the Premiership. The players who come here enjoy their football."
He was Nigeria's star performer during a disappointing World Cup - playing in the goalless draw against England. And the 28-year-old, who announced his retirement from international football shortly before the game against England, believes Sven-Goran Eriksson's men can beat Brazil and win the World Cup. "Of course England can defeat Brazil. I believe they have a chance of doing that," said Okocha "I think any team is now capable of winning the World Cup. We have seen so many surprises, I wouldn't be surprised who wins it. "England have a very good team. But it doesn't really matter if you are good or not. "What matters is a team's determination to go and win the game." |
