Blackpool close in on Dekel Keinan signing

Keinan has made 15 international appearances for Israel

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has confirmed he hopes to complete the signing of Israeli defender Dekel Keinan within the next 48 hours.

Keinan, 25, had a medical with the newly promoted Seasiders last week and is now waiting on a work permit before completing his move from Maccabi Haifa.

Holloway expects Keinan to feature in this week's pre-season work in Devon.

Meanwhile, ex-Arsenal striker Francis Jeffers and Monaco midfielder Malaury Martin are also training with the club.

The latter, a 21-year-old defensive midfielder, is on trial from Monaco, while Jeffers - who has also played for Everton and Rangers - is training with the Seasiders in a bid to maintain fitness after being released by Sheffield Wednesday in the summer.

Keinan will become Blackpool's first signing since their play-off defeat of Cardiff in May, with Holloway telling the Blackpool Gazette: "Hopefully Dekel will get his work permit in the next couple of days.

"He'll be able to take part in the other games here in Devon."

And the Israeli's arrival could help fill the gap left by striker Ben Burgess' move to Notts County.

"I wanted to keep Ben but someone offered him a two-year deal and he made that decision," Holloway said.

"We were going to offer him a deal whereby if he played he would be paid a lot more than he's getting at Notts County, but he goes with our best wishes. He played a big part.

"Having a big fella up front who can keep hold of the thing is a big help.

"Some of our fans didn't appreciate it and wanted him to run through and score from 40 yards. It's a shame we couldn't educate everyone in what he did do and how important he was to the team. We are going to miss him."

Meanwhile defender Rob Edwards, who started 19 league games last season for Blackpool, has signed a new one-year contract with the club.

The 27-year-old's previous deal expired at the end of June but he has now agreed a new contract which contains the option to extend for a further year.

It means Edwards is set for a third season at Bloomfield Road having joined from Wolves in August 2008.

"There has never been any doubt that I wanted to stay and I'm just glad that it's all sorted now," said Edwards.
