Baptiste has made 26 appearances for Blackpool this season

Blackpool defender Alex Baptiste has signed a new contract that will keep him at Bloomfield Road until June 2013.

The 23-year-old has made 47 appearances for the Championship side since joining from Mansfield in July 2008.

"I am very pleased. The direction of the club is upwards and I want to be part of it," the former Burton man told the club's website.

"I am delighted with the way that things have gone and to have signed a new deal."

Seasiders manager Ian Holloway added: "I am delighted to reward Alex, he has been absolutely outstanding.

"If I am writing my team out, he is one of the first in it. I believe he can play in the Premier League."
