Olsson successfully moved from left-back to left midfield last season
Blackburn Rovers midfielder Martin Olsson has signed a new five-year deal.
The 22-year-old left-sided player, who arrived from Hogaborgs BK in 2006, started 19 Premier League games last season as Rovers finished 10th.
And he made his Sweden debut in May, scoring twice in a 4-2 win against Bosnia-Hercegovina.
"Martin was outstanding last season, a young player who came in and made a magnificent contribution," manager Sam Allardyce told the club's website.
Olsson made his Premier League debut in December 2007 and won the club's young player of the year award that season but going into the 2009/10 campaign he had only made 11 league appearances in his three years at the club.
However, after moving into midfield, he made 27 appearances last season and scored what was voted the club's goal of the season in the 6-4 Carling Cup semi-final defeat by Aston Villa.
"Signing a new contract is easy for me after the enjoyment of last season," said Olsson.
"I gained a lot of confidence, through both the management and my team-mates, and I thought I improved game by game.
"It doesn't matter to me whether I am seen as a left-winger or a left-back but I have enjoyed the forward role and the chance to get in among the goals."
Rovers have also recently tied 18-year-old centre-back Phil Jones to a five-year deal, while winger Morten Gamst Pedersen agreed a four-year deal in May.
