Blackburn captain Ryan Nelsen has reiterated his belief that midfielder David Dunn should be called up to the England squad.

Dunn, who won one cap in 2002, is Rovers' top scorer this season with six goals from 10 starts.

Nelsen told BBC Radio Lancashire: "When he is on the field and playing consistently there is no better player to watch, it's so nice on the eye.

"There's not many players that are like that I don't think."

He added: "I play with him day-in day-out and I know how good he is. He is such a fantastic passer of a ball.

He's got that English mentality to never give up. He works hard and wins a share of the ball when he has to defend

"He's very kind of Spanish, like the Xavis and the Iniestas. It's technically very good on the eye.

"He's got that English mentality to never give up. He works hard and wins a share of the ball when he has to defend."

Nelsen revealed that the Blackburn players were extremely surprised to learn of manager Sam Allardyce's impending heart surgery.

"It was obviously a huge shock," he said. "This is a huge week for us with three major games and when the captain of the ship is having to step aside it is a big shock.

"But you have to be professional and get the job done."
