Eddie Gray managed Leeds between 1982-1985 and 2003-2004

Former Leeds manager Eddie Gray is backing former charge Paul Robinson to rediscover his best form after sealing a move to Blackburn from Tottenham.

Gray, who had two spells in charge of Leeds, including the 2003-2004 season told BBC Radio Lancashire:

"He broke in to the Leeds team at a very young age, taking over from Nigel Martyn, so he has got the attributes to be top class.

"I think Paul Robinson's best days are to come yet," Gray added.

"He's young for a keeper. They don't usually mature until their early 30s, look at how well David James has been playing.

"He [Robinson] has played for his country and he'll be looking to re-establish himself as probably one of the best goalkeepers in the country again. I think it will be a good move for him."

Robinson completed his move to Blackburn last week to replace Brad Friedel who has joined Aston Villa.

Gray has said that he thinks once the England international has settled into life in Lancashire he will be a big success.

"He is a big lad so he covers the goal like Brad Friedel. He is good on crosses, a good shot stopper and a tremendous kicker of the ball.

"He can actually kick the ball better and pass the ball better than some of the players I played with," he added.
