Nelsen is a strong leader for Blackburn |
Blackburn captain and New Zealand international central defender Ryan Nelsen has signed a new five-year contract with the Ewood Park club. The new deal runs until 2012 and shows the impact the 29-year-old has had since signing on a free in January 2005 following a short trial.
"I'm delighted for the club and Ryan," said manager Mark Hughes.
"He's my captain and will be very influential in helping to shape the progress of the club."
Nelsen spent a major part of last season on the sidelines after undergoing a major hamstring operation last August and only returned to action in January.
"Ryan is a top man on and off the field. the positive impact of this deal cannot be underestimated," said club chairman John Williams.
