Blackburn issue Yorke ultimatum

Blackburn have warned Manchester United that they will call off the deal to sign Dwight Yorke if the clubs cannot reach an agreement.

The two parties have been in protracted talks about 30-year-old Yorke's future with the transfer fee proving the stumbling block.

We have transfer windows for the first time and we don't want to be caught out

"There's no change in the Yorke situation," said Blackburn chief executive John Williams.

"We would like it to be sorted out as quickly as possible one way or another.

"We're still talking to Manchester United and they have been helpful in our negotiations, but there is still clear water between the two clubs.

"We have several irons in the fire should the Yorke deal unfortunately not go through.

"We have transfer windows for the first time and we don't want to be caught out.

"If the Yorke deal does not come off then we have got to look at other areas."

Yorke has a year left on his Old Trafford deal but Blackburn could switch their attentions to Eidur Gudjohnsen, of Chelsea, and Leeds' Robbie Keane.

Williams added that the club are hopeful of keeping Republic of Ireland winger Damien Duff despite interest from Liverpool.

"We're still in talks with him and his agent over a new improved deal that will keep him at Ewood Park," said Williams.

"We want him in a blue and white shirt next season and we're not miles apart."

Meanwhile, Blackburn are hoping Hakan Unsal will be available for their friendly against Lazio on 9 August.

Turkish international Hakan needed minor surgery after damaging his knee during this summer's World Cup finals.
