Birmingham defender Johnson eyeing up Wembley return

Roger Johnson
Johnson is eager to gain some revenge over Portsmouth

Birmingham defender Roger Johnson has set his sights on a second FA Cup final appearance as he prepares to face Portsmouth in the quarter-finals.

It was Pompey who defeated his Cardiff City team in 2008 in his first taste of the Wembley showpiece.

"The end result was really disappointing, to go all that way and lose when we played well enough to win," Johnson told BBC WM.

"To get through against Portsmouth on Saturday would be nice for me."

Johnson admits he teases some of his team-mates about having played in a Cup final, although sometimes that rebounds on him.

In the Cup they'll be buzzing to get to the semi-finals and Wembley

"I think I'm the only player here to have played in an FA Cup Final, but they give me banter back because it's only a loser's medal," said the 26-year old.

"I'd love to go to the final with Birmingham."

Portsmouth's financial plight is common knowledge, with the club in administration, but Johnson believes that could make them an even more dangerous opponent at Fratton Park.

"The pressure's maybe lifted off them - they may be relegated now with the deduction of points, so the pressure may be off them," he said.

"Certainly in the Cup they'll be buzzing to get to the semi-finals and Wembley as they did years ago."

Blues have been drawn away from home for the fourth round in succession, previously surviving trips to Nottingham Forest, Everton and Derby.

"Getting away from our pitch is great. It's all been away, but I think we'd prefer it carried on now," said Johnson.

"We've got our 40 points and we can concentrate a bit more on the Cup, not taking our eye off the league, but to try and get ourselves as far as possible."
