Aitken thinks Birmingham can cope

Aitken says there is good competition for places at St Andrew's

Birmingham first-team coach Roy Aitken believes the strength of the squad will prove its worth as the club begins a busy period over the next few weeks.

The Championship leaders play five games over the next 16 days but Aitken is sure they will cope well.

"With so many games coming up a strong squad is definitely needed," he told the Blues website.

"We feel the squad is capable of taking us through this tough period. We have good competition for places."

Blues lead the Championship by a point from local rivals Wolves despite only scoring 13 goals in their 10 games so far.

They face Burnley next and Aitken believes his strikers are looking to improve.

"We're looking for a little edge from players and for them to get in the team on merit and stay there.

"The defenders and midfielders get more games because you want to keep that department solid and not risk it too much.

"It's the forward areas that are changed more often," Aitken added.
