Ghaly failed to earn a regular first-team place at Spurs

A �3m deal had been agreed, with Ghaly set to sign a three-year contract, subject to receiving a work permit.

"I didn't want him anywhere near my team," said Bruce.

"I'm not going to go into specifics, but he was criticising everything, including his team-mates, and that for me, is not on."

Birmingham had originally said only that the move had collapsed because of "footballing reasons".

But Bruce added: "I think he's a good player but you need somebody who comes through the door who is going to enhance the dressing room, not disrupt it.

"I found his attitude and his arrogance insulting to the rest of the people who I employ, and more importantly the players."

Ghaly joined Tottenham from Dutch side Feyenoord on transfer deadline day in January 2006.

He went on to make 34 appearances for the White Hart Lane outfit, scoring three goals in the process.

His future at White Hart Lane appeared to be in doubt after he threw down his shirt as he walked off after being substituted by manager Martin Jol against Blackburn.

Jol has been busy in the summer transfer market and will now have to decide what to do with Ghaly.

"We thought he was gone so we bought (Kevin-Prince) Boateng," said Jol.

"Last year number one was (Aaron) Lennon and Hossam Ghaly was my number two choice on the right in midfield and he did unbelievably well and he had probably more assists than any other player.

"I will have to hear his side of the story and then we will wait and see."
