Striker Forssell has suffered from knee problems |
Mikael Forssell may face former club Chelsea in Birmingham's Premier League opener on 12 August after it had seemed his career at St Andrews was over. The 25-year-old striker was set to move to Hanover, having spent three years in the Midlands that were hit by injury, but the switch never materialised.
Blues boss Steve Bruce said: "Is Mikael in with a chance of playing against Chelsea? Absolutely.
"He has looked so sharp in pre-season. We really hope he can stay that way."

Bruce added: "His knee is fixed and he is pain free, which wasn't the case at the end of the season.
"No-one needs to tell me how good a player Mikael is when on song and fit. It was a fantastic effort when he scored 19 goals, 17 of them in the Premiership, three or four seasons ago.
"If he stays fit, it will be like having a new signing and I might not have to go looking for another striker to sign."
Bruce was keen to bring in Mido from Tottenham but he said the deal collapsed and there was only a slim chance of reviving it.
