Deasy figured in Barrow's last friendly despite leaving earlier this summer

Barrow joint-boss Dave Bayliss believes a return to the club for former goalkeeper Tim Deasy is unlikely to take place at the current time.

Deasy featured in Barrow's pre-season friendly against Oldham Athletic on Saturday, but Bayliss revealed other potential targets are on the radar.

"You never say never but the deal doesn't look likely at the moment," Bayliss told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"We've got one or two really strong targets in place."

Bayliss added: "A couple of clubs are on tour abroad during pre-season so in a couple of weeks time then we might have a definite number one."

Barrow are currently seeking to fill the goalkeeper vacancies left by Stuart Tomlinson's move to Port Vale and Deasy's rejection of a new deal, with former Morecambe goalkeeper Steven Drench among the trialists at Holker Street this pre-season.

And with the Bluebirds management team assessing the progress of further players following their opening warm-up with Oldham last weekend, Bayliss admitted time will be given for players to prove their worth to the club.

"They all did quite well, and it's only the first real game," Bayliss continued.

"Ciaran Donnelly has come in and looked really good in training and come back fit and determined, and Steven Drench has done well in the first half, so we were very pleased with everyone.

"We need to have a proper two or three-game look at the players, there'll be a couple more trialists in before the start of the season.

"We need to start looking at the team that is going to start the season.

"I just compare the squad now to last season and I do honestly think it's stronger in depth and quality."
