Barrow joint-boss Bayliss apology after on-pitch brawl

Barrow joint-manager Dave Bayliss has apologised for his part in a brawl which took place after Saturday's 2-0 defeat by Kettering at Holker Street.

Bayliss reacted after striker Gregg Blundell suffered a head injury in a challenge with Kettering full-back James Jennings during the second-half.

"I'm not condoning my actions, I do apologise for anything I've done," Bayliss told BBC Radio Cumbria.

"When you see a player get their head smashed it does wind you up."

Blundell, who was treated on the field, received oxygen and was taken off the field on a stretcher.

He was subsequently released from hospital on Saturday night with concussion and is set to miss the next two weeks as a precautionary measure.

The incident came after Blundell's teammate, Nick Rogan, swallowed his tongue following a match earlier in the season, and Bayliss admitted his actions were as a result of fear of serious injury to a member of his squad.

"There's no getting away from what I did at the end, I shouldn't have entered the pitch, but it got the better of me. I do care about the players and I apologise if I offended anybody," Bayliss said.

The club meanwhile have confirmed they will be undertaking an internal investigation and director Tony Keen admitted the club will act accordingly to the events that took place.

"I spoke to Dave yesterday and today, and he's disappointed with himself. He feels he has let himself, the club, the fans and the town down," Keen said.

"He's reacted because he's passionate about the club and he wants to look after his players. I can't comment too much about what happened because we're going to have an internal investigation and a look at what we're going to have to do.

"Dave's a very passionate guy, and this time he's not controlled himself and we'll have to look at that. We can't let yesterday go without looking at the sequence of events."
