Hunt relief at first Barrow goal

Barrow striker Lee Hunt has spoken of his relief at finally scoring his first league goal for the club in Monday's 1-1 draw at York.

The 26-year-old, a summer signing from Rhyl, thought he had scored against Mansfield on Saturday but his effort was ruled an own-goal by Alan O'Hare.

"It's been a long time coming," Hunt told BBC Radio Cumbria. "I'm delighted to finally get off the mark.

"It was a hard game. Not many teams will go to York and get a result."

The Bluebirds, who remain third in the table, had fallen behind to Richard Brodie's third-minute opener for York, before Hunt's equaliser seven minutes later.

"I'd say York are the best side we have played so far," Hunt added.

"It was just a battle more than anything. There were no easy chances and luckily we managed to get a good point out of it."

Hunt became Barrow's first summer signing when he agreed a one-year deal with the Blue Square Premier newcomers in May.

A self-employed bricklayer, Hunt scored 92 times in 153 appearances for Rhyl after previous spells with Bangor City and West Cheshire League side Helmsby.

"I'm finding it quite fast at this level," Hunt conceded.

"In the Welsh league there are only a couple of teams who are full-time. There are more full-time teams in this league and the pace is faster.

"I've settled in well and I feel a lot fitter now so everything is going well at the minute."
