Aston Villa lost their opening game in the pre-season Peace Cup tournament in southern Spain.
Martin O'Neill's side were defeated 1-0 by Malaga, as they were struck down by a Fernando goal on 80 minutes.
Villa striker Emile Heskey suffered a nasty clash of heads early in the match, and was stretchered off with mild concussion.
He will be assessed before for Wednesday's match against Mexican side Atlante but is expecting to be fit.
