Danny Hylton pushes for Aldershot Town starting place
Hylton only started five league games for Aldershot last season
Aldershot Town forward Danny Hylton hopes he has impressed manager Kevin Dillon enough to be in the starting line-up against Southend on Saturday.
Hylton, 21, made his first appearance of the season in the Shots' 3-0 defeat to Watford in the Carling Cup.
He told BBC Surrey: "I was disappointed not to start at the weekend after the pre-season I had.
"I'm not going to question the manager because it's his team. I hope I've done enough to get the nod on Saturday."
He added: "I think there's a time to knock on the door and ask. I'm just going to try and crack on in training, do well in games, and see where it takes me."
Hylton admits that the players Dillon has brought in over the summer are providing tougher competition for places.
"I think we've got a very good squad. I would say it's up there, maybe even better than last year," he said.
"I thought I should be starting in pre-season but it just shows the strength and depth that we've got."
