Aldershot Town skipper Anthony Charles sets target
Charles was Shots player of season for 2008/09
Aldershot Town captain Anthony Charles has set his team the goal of promotion from League Two this season.
The Shots lost out in the play-off semi-finals last year, but Charles, 29, is confident they can improve on this in the coming campaign.
"We need to progress and have a better season than we did last year," he told BBC Surrey.
"We'll set a points target based on last season and if we reach it we'll be more successful than last year."
Aldershot finished fifth last season, 11 points short of an automatic promotion place, and lost to Rotherham in the play-offs.
But Charles believes the club's new signings will make them a better team.
"We've got a stronger squad with more experience, which will hopefully help us see out games 1-0 when we need to," he explained.
"The manager knows what he wants and we've brought in experienced players like Glen Little and Jamie Vincent, which hopefully we can use to our advantage."
Aldershot begin their League Two promotion chase with a trip to Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
"No disrespect but it's not a very nice ground to got to, but I'd rather go there on the first day of the season when hopefully the pitch is alright and we can play the way we want to," said Charles.
