Aldershot Town manager Kevin Dillon says the squad he has assembled is stronger than the one which made the League Two play-offs last season.
Dillon has been busy in the transfer market, bringing in 11 new players.
He told BBC Surrey: "It's a better squad. It's got a better balance and a lot more experience.
"The atmosphere around has been terrific. I had a lot of whingers last year but they've moved on. I've brought in better players to replace them."
He added: "I was disappointed with how some of them left without speaking to us but I'm happy that it's happened now.

"There's a real good mix of old young and experience. Everyone seems to be enjoying things."
Dillon believes his players are starting to carry out his instructions on the pitch ahead of their first game of the league season.
"There's a certain way that we want to play. We're playing from the back whereas last year we were getting it forward a lot quicker," he said.
"I feel they know their positions and they're starting to handle the ball a bit better."
The Shots begin their League Two campaign away to Accrington Stanley on Saturday.
