Aldershot chairman John McGinty has died after a long battle with cancer.
The 72-year-old joined the Shots in 1992, just before their liquidation, and led the reformed club back to the Football League as chairman in 2008.
Aldershot supporters club chief Keith Able told BBC Surrey: "It's a very sad day indeed. John McGinty was 'Mr Aldershot'. He was a super guy."
A minute's silence will be held prior to the Shots' home match against Hereford on Saturday, 5 September.
McGinty moved to Alton from his native Ireland 40 years ago, and it was then that the love affair with Aldershot started.

He was heavily involved in trying to save the club from their eventual demise in 1992 and was made a life member for his efforts.
