Accrington Stanley chairman Ilyas Khan says that he intends to vacate his seat on the board at the end of the season.
Khan took on the role of non-executive chairman of the League Two side in November after clearing the club of a £308,000 tax bill.
He told BBC Radio Lancashire: "I came in when things were really terrible.
"Whether I'm chairman or not doesn't alter my love, affection and commitment to the club. I don't see the two things as the same."
He continued: "I'm a very unusual chairman. I'm a chairman who hardly goes to away games.
"I'm a chairman really as a figurehead because we needed that in order to comply with the very difficult circumstances we had.
"My handshake with David O'Neill (managing director) was that at the end of this season I would move off the board and I would no longer be chairman and he would take over the running of the club again."
Khan has pledged that he will help the club financially when it is needed despite his non-involvement at board level.
He said: "There is a business part of Accrington Stanley which is where my expertise lies.
"I'll only have moved on once we've agreed on a budget for the pitch and the ground and either I or somebody else has provided it."
