Morecambe's play-off hopes were dented as their four-match unbeaten run came to an end following second-half goals from Zesh Rehman and Adam Bolder.
Bantams skipper Rehman broke the deadlock, converting after Steve Williams flicked on Robbie Threlfall's inswinging free-kick from the right.
Loan signing Bolder struck in stoppage time with his first goal for the club.
Gareth Evans raced down the left before finding Bolder, who side-stepped two defenders and fired into an empty net.
Bradford City manager Peter Taylor told BBC Radio Leeds: "We needed that win. We played very well, we were athletic and played with heart and desire. We created some very good chances for ourselves.
"Every time a player had to do a job they did it and did it very well indeed. I thought the tempo was very good in the second half and the players worked very hard.
"I'm very pleased and proud of the players and their hard work, we need to build on this now."
