Accrington boss John Coleman calls for fixture wipeout

Accrington manager John Coleman believes the whole of this weekend's English football programme should be called off because of the bad weather.

Stanley's game at Lincoln City on Saturday was called off following a pitch inspection on Thursday.

"There was a call when the snow was forecast to maybe cancel football for a couple of weeks," Coleman told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"You have to prepare that games will be on until you're told otherwise."

Accrington have also had two games postponed over the Christmas period - including Saturday's FA Cup third round tie with Gillingham.

Because we haven't been able to get on to an eleven-a-side pitch we've been looking at the fitness

But, despite fixture congestion, Coleman is against the idea of a winter break.

"I wouldn't advocate a winter break because you don't know at what point you're going to get this snap of weather," he said. "You could get it in November or you could get it in February so to gamble on which two weeks will be the worst is hard.

"Once you know it's going to come about, which we've known for about week, what's to stop closing down the fixtures for a fortnight?

"We've had a couple of days when the players couldn't get in to work because of the snow but they have to still keep checking over themselves.

"But because we haven't been able to get on to an eleven-a-side pitch we've been looking at the fitness and trying to hammer that home to them that they have to keep on top of it."
