Hibs managing director Rod Petrie wants to see all the facts |
Hibernian have defended their decision to delay this week's proposed vote on whether to admit Falkirk to the Premier League - insisting issues involved are still clouded by uncertainty. An SPL vote was scheduled for Thursday when the Bell's First Division champions hoped to hear they would be allowed to ground-share with Airdrie United in the opening months of the next campaign.
"We can't make a decision because we don't have all the facts," said Hibs managing director Rod Petrie in the Edinburgh Evening News.
"Falkirk made a submission which was discussed in the SPL boardroom when it was decided that further information was required and, as yet, we have had nothing further. "Falkirk are, I think, in the process, or just about, to come forward with the information but there is no dithering from Hibs.
"No-one has the documentation, no-one has all the facts and it would be disrespectful to the clubs in the League and Falkirk, who are trying to get into it, to make a premature decision.
"It may be a fine line, but this is not an SPL board decision, under the rules it is a decision for all the clubs and a general meeting has to be called.
"That takes 14 days and to be fair to the clubs in the League, and Falkirk, we need to have the best information if we are to make a balanced decision."
The delay, which means the season will almost be over by the time the relegation/promotion issue has been decided, has infuriated Motherwell.
The Fir Park club are currently bottom of the SPL and manager Terry Butcher is angry that he has to submit a list of players he wants to retain by 15 May.
Falkirk still intend to present their case at what will now just be an SPL board meeting on Thursday, but no vote can take place. And the Bairns have voiced concern that their position is being undermined by others in the SPL.
A statement on falkirkfc.co.uk said: "A few elements within the Scottish Premier League with their own particular agendas are deliberately misrepresenting Falkirk's position.
"The club is warning fans to expect more misinformation in a desperate effort to undermine the club's case in the days ahead.
"Deliberate attempts are being made to discredit Falkirk and our approach to the SPL in the tabloid press in particular, through anonymous SPL sources."
